April Local Employment and Unemployment Data Released

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates of unemployment and employment statistics for Wisconsin metropolitan areas, major cities and counties in Wisconsin for April 2020.

In the region served by Thrive Economic Development:
Dodge County’s unemployment rate for April 2020 was 12 percent. The rate in Jefferson County was 12.8 percent. The April 2020 rates for Dodge and Jefferson gave them rankings of 10th and 16th, respectively, of the state’s 72 counties. Lafayette County ranked highest (lowest unemployment rate) in the state, with an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent. Iron and Menominee ranked lowest, with each county experiencing an unemployment rate of 26.2 percent for April 2020.

Other data included in the press release:

  • Metropolitan Statistical Areas: Preliminary April 2020 unemployment rates increased in Wisconsin’s 12 metro areas over the month and over the year. Unemployment rates for April range from 11.8 percent in Madison to 17.0 percent in Janesville-Beloit
  • Municipalities: Preliminary April 2020 unemployment rates increased in Wisconsin’s 34 largest cities over the month and over the year. Unemployment rates range from 9.9 percent in Fitchburg to 21.1 percent in Superior.
  • Counties: Preliminary April 2020 unemployment rates increased in Wisconsin’s 72 counties over the month and over the year.
